When looking at what to use for rewards during training, there are a few that I prefer to use. Before we get into those, we need to address another factor in rewarding. You will want to know if your dog is food or toy driven to ensure that the proper rewards are used. If this is not established before training, then the dog may end up not wanting to continue to work or train. Below is a list of rewards that I use when training my dogs and may not work for yours.
Food rewards include the following:
· Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Treats
· Bil-Jac Frozen – High Reward
· Kibble
· Hot Dogs – High Reward
Toy rewards include the following:
· Ball on Rope
· Bumper – Plastic
· Tug – Fabric
· Rolled Towel
These are types of rewards that I have personally found to be effective during training. Each dog will have its own type of reward that works for training but could also be a combination of these two types. Remember not to get frustrated if the dog stops working, just look for another type of motivator in rewards.
